Nemetschek Engineering User Contest 2009 rules and regulations
  1. About the contest
Participants of the contest submit one or more projects, designed with Allplan Engineering, Allplan Precast, Frilo Statics, Glaser -isb cad-, Mseries, Scia Engineer (SCIA.ESA PT) & ESA-Prima Win), Scia•Steel & Concrete manufacturing logistics. These projects have either been already realized, or are still in the construction phase, or will shortly be carried out. The submitted projects will be presented to a jury and per category (see § 3) one winner and three nominees will be indicated.

A comprehensive case study will be made of each of the winning company’s projects. After the prize-giving ceremony the winners will be announced to the international press and media. All participants and their projects will be presented on the websites of the organizing companies, as well as in the Nemetschek Engineering User Contest Book 2009.
All winning projects will also be published in the Nemetschek Scia eNews with a readership of more than 18.000 subscribers, as well as appear in other newsletters from the Nemetschek Engineering Group.

  2. Participating in the contest
Taking part in the contest is free and accessible for all users of an officially registered version of Allplan Engineering, Allplan Precast, Frilo Statics, Glaser -isb cad-, Mseries, Scia Engineer (SCIA•ESA PT, Nexis, ESA-Prima Win), Scia•Steel & Concrete.

  3. Categories
Each participant can submit one or more projects in each of the following 7 categories:

    • Category 1: CAE Constructive Elements (Frilo statics, Scia Engineer, MSeries)
Design of building parts with a high technical level or original geometry. It may concern specific slabs, beams, columns, stairs, connections, foundations and or sheet walls... with a level of detail which illustrates the necessity of using dedicated software for this type of structural parts.

    • Category 2: CAE Housing & Buildings (Frilo statics, Scia Engineer)
Design of buildings, residences, apartments, roof spans for houses, including high-rise buildings … for which Frilo or Scia modeling, analysis & design software has been used. The originality of the design of the structural work fitting with the architectural design is a decisive factor.

    • Category 3: CAE Civil Works (Frilo statics, Scia Engineer)
Any type of structure that fits within civil engineering, at which Frilo or Scia Engineer calculation software has been used. It regards structures including each type of bridge (steel, concrete, suspended bridge …), tunnels, bulkheads, locks, barrages, in short general infrastructure... The level of application of engineering science is decisive.

    • Category 4: CAE Industrial Buildings & Plants (Frilo statics, Scia Engineer)
Design of general steel structures, power plants, frame structures, large span halls and hangars, pre-engineered buildings, metal or aluminum structures … for which Frilo or Scia Engineer design software has been used. The focus is on the size of the structure, and the level of detailing for the steel or aluminum members & connections.

    • Category 5: CAE Special Projects (Frilo statics, Scia Engineer)
Design of structures with a particular character. In this category we expect e.g. mechanical projects which often form a part of a larger project (storage tanks, conveyer belts, cold store installations, supporting structures), playground equipment, scaffolds, works of art, cranes, tubular connections, … at which the analysis/design software has been used. To this category also belong stadiums and spectacular roofs. Winning criteria are originality and complexity.

    • Category 6: CAD Engineering, Buildings
(Allplan Engineering, Allplan Precast, Glaser -isb cad-, Scia steel & concrete manufacturing logistics)
All types of buildings (residential, office, public and industrial buildings) made of concrete (cast-in-place or precast), steel, compound or mixed materials. Of particular interest are projects that distinguish themselves through an innovative design process (e.g. building information modeling) or an integrated teamwork of architects, structural engineers and MEP engineers. Assessment criteria: innovative design process, level of difficulty, size of project, design originality, itness for manufacturing and erection

    • Category 7: CAD Engineering, Engineering work and special structures
(Allplan Engineering, Allplan Precast, Glaser -isb cad-, Scia steel & concrete manufacturing logistics)
Engineering work and special structures such as bridges, tunnels, dams, tanks, silos, towers etc. made of concrete (cast-in-place or precast), steel, compound or mixed materials. Of particular interest are projects that distinguish themselves through an innovative design process (e.g. building information modeling) and that emphasize on efficient manufacturing and erection. Assessment criteria: innovative design process, level of difficulty, size of project, design originality, fitness for manufacturing and erection

  4. Organization of the Contest
The contest is co-organized by all offices and partners of the Nemetschek Engineering Group and is under leadership of:
